About the Tour

Hike to the famous Rainbow Mountain Vinicunca and its Andean landscapes.

Cusco, Quesiuno, Inkintuyoc, Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca)

The Rainbow Mountain tour is one of the most breathtaking nature excursions you can do in a single day from Cusco. Your adventure begins as we travel through the picturesque landscapes of the South Valley towards the community of Quesiuno, the strategic starting point for our hike to one of Peru’s most iconic natural wonders.

During the uphill trek starting from Inkintuyoc, you will be surrounded by expansive valleys, snow-capped peaks, and Andean wildlife—it is very common to see llamas and alpacas roaming freely. The ultimate goal is the summit of Vinicunca at over 5,000 meters above sea level, where the earth’s minerals create a mesmerizing visual spectacle of red, yellow, and turquoise stripes. It is a challenging but deeply rewarding experience.

Keys to conquering 5,000 meters

🧥
Dress in Layers
We start before dawn when it’s freezing. Wear a thermal base, a fleece, and a windproof/waterproof jacket so you can shed layers as you hike.

🥾
Proper Footwear
Wear sturdy trekking shoes or boots with good grip. Avoid canvas sneakers or flat soles to prevent slipping on gravel.

☀️
High Sun Radiation
At this altitude, the sun is incredibly strong even if it feels cold. Apply 50+ SPF sunscreen, wear UV-blocking sunglasses, and a hat.

💵
Bring Cash
There is no internet signal on the mountain. Bring Peruvian soles in small denominations for rustic toilets, snacks, or horse rentals.
